Licensing

Licensing & Citation Policy

XFID identifiers are free to cite. The registry provides additional value through structured metadata, version history, and document access — available through subscription tiers.

Citation Policy

XFID identifiers may be used by Issuers and their agents, brokers, and those supporting an issuance or production of an extra-financial document. This includes referencing XFIDs in term sheets, final terms, prospectuses, and internal systems related to an issuance.

Use of XFIDs in products that are sold for a fee — such as data products, datasets, or commercial platforms — requires a licence. Where XFIDs are used, proper citation is required.

In short: Issuers and their service providers may use XFIDs freely in connection with issuances. Commercial data use requires a licence. Proper citation is always required.

How to Reference an XFID

XFID identifiers are designed to be used wherever sustainable finance documents are referenced. Here are practical examples for common workflows:

In Final Terms or Term Sheets

"The Issuer's Green Bond Framework dated 15 March 2024 (XFID: XF-A3B7K2M-9), as reviewed by [SPO Provider] in their Second Party Opinion dated 20 March 2024 (XFID: XF-K7P2N4R-3)."

In Data Feeds or Systems

framework_xfid: XFA3B7K2M9
spo_xfid: XFK7P2N4R3

In Research or Reports

"Zurich Capital AG (2024). Green Bond Framework. XFID: XF-A3B7K2M-9. Retrieved from https://xframework.id/registry/XFA3B7K2M9"

The registry URL xframework.id/[XFID] will always resolve to the document's record page with metadata, related documents, and citation information.

Data Redistribution

Identifiers: XFID identifiers may be used by Issuers and their agents, brokers, and those supporting with an issuance or production of an extra-financial document or information. They require a licence if used in products that are sold for a fee, in such uses as data products and datasets. Where used, proper citation is required.

XFID is not meant to be a data source, and metadata or information about a document, framework, or other extra-financial information should be sourced from the originator of the information. XFID will confirm which version of the document you are viewing, if it has been changed, and can provide you the original text if that original was since moved or deleted.

Algorithm Transparency

The XFID computation algorithm requires a licence, but any party can independently verify an XFID through the use of the check digit. This is explained on the About page.

This means XFID identifiers are independently verifiable — you do not need to trust the registry to confirm that a given XFID correctly identifies a given document.
